Jack Davies – Our Newcomer of the Year!

A man stands in front of bushes, holding an award in his hands

What a night to remember!  Last month, the team headed to the Landsec Annual Aspire Awards, held at the spectacular Natural History Museum, and we came home with three awards. We're incredibly proud of every single one - but today we want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on Jack Davies, who walked away with Newcomer of the Year.

Jack joined Q&S as a Contract Manager in March 2025 and in just over a year, he's made a real impact.

One story that really captures who Jack is: a member of his Interior Gardening team was struggling with confidence when she first joined. Getting to the client's site alone felt overwhelming. Jack didn't just point her in the right direction, he walked with her, chatting along the way through St James' Park, until she felt comfortable going independently. He also noticed she was a visual learner and created a 9-page, full-colour Interior Plant Maintenance Guide specifically for her. That guide is now standard issue across all Q&S sites. One act of thoughtfulness, turned into something that helps the whole team.

Jack had never worked in community outreach before joining us. Inspired by Landsec's partnership with Caxton Youth Partnership, he reached out, made connections, and arranged for Q&S to donate labour, a large planter, ornamental grasses and bulbs to a local school near Cardinal Place, brightening up their entrance at no cost to them. He's now their go-to person for gardening advice, and workshops might even be in the pipeline.

Thanks Jack, for spotting an opportunity to do something good and just getting on with it.

On the operational side, he's transformed how his team works. Managing 22 sites, he quickly realised reactive working wasn't good enough, so he redesigned his schedule to proactively audit every site on a rolling programme.

Standards have visibly improved; Landsec have noticed and so have the teams. He also supported the gardening team in bringing the Cardinal Place greenhouse project to life, guiding the team to grow and deliver over 450 free plants to Landsec customers throughout 2025, as well as fresh organic produce straight to the onsite café. Collaborating with the greenhouse gardeners on what vegetables to grow, to fit in with their menu planning.

We are very proud to have Jack as part of the Q&S family, thank you for everything you bring to the team.

And huge congratulations to all the Aspire finalists and winners - it was a brilliant evening celebrating the very best of horticulture.
